SHIMMY SHOWCASE

Shimmyshowcase began in 2003 at Coffee Haven in Long Beach. In 2011 we moved to Viento y Agua Coffee House, where we danced every month until COVID-19 brought Shimmyshowcase at Viento y Agua to an end in March 2020. Our search for a new Shimmyshowcase venue yielded a generous offer from the owners of Babouch Moroccan Restaurant in San Pedro, CA! Shimmyshowcase made its spectacular debut at Babouch on Sunday, July 17, 2022 to a restaurant filled to capacity with a large crowd of enthusiastic Shimmyshowcase supporters, many of whom got up to dance with the performers in an impromptu grand finale to finish off a thoroughly enjoyable evening. Although the place and city have changed, Shimmyshowcase continues its original mission to provide a place where all dancers, from beginners to seasoned performers, are welcome to perform in front of a warm, appreciative audience. Performers and guests alike keep returning for the temporary escape from the stress of everyday life into this relaxing and fun environment to explore and enjoy middle eastern inspired dance. UPCOMING SHIMMYSHOWCASE EVENTS

November 16 - Shimmyshowcase pivots from Halloween to Thanksgiving with “Ethnic Cornucopia.” Thanksgiving traces back to 1621 when the Pilgrims—the first undocumented immigrants—celebrated their successful harvest with the Wampanoag, who helped them survive and learn to cultivate crops. Cornucopias are associated with abundance, and “Ethnic Cornucopia” refers to the people of many different backgrounds and cultures who came to this country for a better life. Please plan to join coordinator Saviya and guest dancers Yasmin, Desert Mirage, Bella Noor, Jahnan, Al‘ana, Azhar Jamilla, Vanina, Adora, and Mandala Danceworks for this Thanksgiving celebration in dance.

Call Jade at 562-430-1111 to make your dinner reservation for 5:45 p.m. to take advantage of happy hour. Please see the host/hostess at the check-in station at the front of the restaurant to locate your table. Shimmyshowcase will begin at 6:30 p.m.
