SHIMMY SHOWCASE

Shimmyshowcase began in 2003 at Coffee Haven in Long Beach. In 2011 we moved to Viento y Agua Coffee House, where we danced every month until COVID-19 brought Shimmyshowcase at Viento y Agua to an end in March 2020. Our search for a new Shimmyshowcase venue yielded a generous offer from the owners of Babouch Moroccan Restaurant in San Pedro, CA! Shimmyshowcase made its spectacular debut at Babouch on Sunday, July 17, 2022 to a restaurant filled to capacity with a large crowd of enthusiastic Shimmyshowcase supporters, many of whom got up to dance with the performers in an impromptu grand finale to finish off a thoroughly enjoyable evening. Although the place and city have changed, Shimmyshowcase continues its original mission to provide a place where all dancers, from beginners to seasoned performers, are welcome to perform in front of a warm, appreciative audience. Performers and guests alike keep returning for the temporary escape from the stress of everyday life into this relaxing and fun environment to explore and enjoy middle eastern inspired dance. UPCOMING SHIMMYSHOWCASE EVENTS

March 16 -- Ilana returns with the ever popular “Rock-a-Belly.” Another talent-packed evening is planned, with Shimmy Roses, Shalimar, Jasmine Gem, Al’ana, Yasmin, Draca, Anaheed, Ilana & Bruja de la Luna and Sephira lined up to show you how to rock belly-dance style! Please mark your calendars now so you don’t miss this must-see event.

Jade Restaurant is now booking Shimmyshowcase dinner reservations as they do for their other scheduled shows. Please make dinner reservations for no earlier than 5:45. The show begins at 6:30 p.m. Please inform your guests who want to sit together as a group that they might be asked to wait until everyone in their party has arrived before being seated at the scheduled reservation time. Reservations may be made by calling Jade at 562-430-1111.

May 18 – Christina Rizkallah & Safiyeh present “Dance in Bloom” with Azhar Jamila.
