SHIMMY SHOWCASE

Shimmyshowcase began in 2003 at Coffee Haven in Long Beach. In 2011 we moved to Viento y Agua Coffee House, where we danced every month until COVID-19 brought Shimmyshowcase at Viento y Agua to an end in March 2020. Our search for a new Shimmyshowcase venue yielded a generous offer from the owners of Babouch Moroccan Restaurant in San Pedro, CA! Shimmyshowcase made its spectacular debut at Babouch on Sunday, July 17, 2022 to a restaurant filled to capacity with a large crowd of enthusiastic Shimmyshowcase supporters, many of whom got up to dance with the performers in an impromptu grand finale to finish off a thoroughly enjoyable evening. Although the place and city have changed, Shimmyshowcase continues its original mission to provide a place where all dancers, from beginners to seasoned performers, are welcome to perform in front of a warm, appreciative audience. Performers and guests alike keep returning for the temporary escape from the stress of everyday life into this relaxing and fun environment to explore and enjoy middle eastern inspired dance. UPCOMING SHIMMYSHOWCASE EVENTS

February 16 – Ever innovative Saviya takes Jade on the Water back a century to morph into a “Speakeasy!” Dancers Shaheen, Christina Rizkallah, Kayla, Taji, Sephira, Sara Spitfire & Draca, and Onijo Ikun will make you think you’re in the roaring 20’s with their theme-inspired choreography and costuming..

Jade Restaurant is now booking Shimmyshowcase dinner reservations as they do for their other scheduled shows. Dinner reservations will be taken for 5:45 p.m. for a 6:30 p.m. Shimmyshowcase show. To minimize server overload, please encourage all guests who will be sitting at your table to arrive at the scheduled reservation time. Reservations may be made by calling Jade at 562-430-1111.

April 27 – Yasmin presents “Anything Goes” with Zuzu Bowie (Note that this Shimmyshowcase will take place on the 4th Sunday of the month))
