SHIMMY SHOWCASE

Shimmyshowcase began in 2003 at Coffee Haven in Long Beach. In 2011 we moved to Viento y Agua Coffee House, where we danced every month until COVID-19 brought Shimmyshowcase at Viento y Agua to an end in March 2020. Our search for a new Shimmyshowcase venue yielded a generous offer from the owners of Babouch Moroccan Restaurant in San Pedro, CA! Shimmyshowcase made its spectacular debut at Babouch on Sunday, July 17, 2022 to a restaurant filled to capacity with a large crowd of enthusiastic Shimmyshowcase supporters, many of whom got up to dance with the performers in an impromptu grand finale to finish off a thoroughly enjoyable evening. Although the place and city have changed, Shimmyshowcase continues its original mission to provide a place where all dancers, from beginners to seasoned performers, are welcome to perform in front of a warm, appreciative audience. Performers and guests alike keep returning for the temporary escape from the stress of everyday life into this relaxing and fun environment to explore and enjoy middle eastern inspired dance. UPCOMING SHOWCASE CALENDAR & DANCER OPPORTUNITIES

May 29 -- Shimmyshowcase goes to the Circus with “Under the Big Top.” Ringmaster Saviya leads a stupendous lineup featuring amazing feats of dance by Nova Kachina, Bella, Anastasia, Aileen, and Rosé. Our greatest act will be donating all trips received on this evening to “A Place Called Home,” A Place Called Home (http://www.apch.org/) is a safe haven in South Central Los Angeles where underserved youth are empowered to take ownership of the quality and direction of their lives through programs in education, arts, and well-being; and are inspired to make a meaningful difference in their community and the world.

JUNE 5—NO SHIMMYSHOWCASE (CAIRO CARAVAN)

June 12 -- Abraiha will be your coordinator for this Shimmyshowcase, and she welcomes Dreamswirls, Dancing Flower, Maya and Nadirah to I-Candy’s magic carpet.

June 19 – NO SHIMMYSHOWCASE (Fathers’ Day)

June 26 --Xandra presents two ATS Troupes, Mariposa and Elixira. We have openings for another dancer or two, so if you would like to perform for this Shimmyshowcase, please contact us at Shimmyshowcase@gmail.com.
