SHIMMY SHOWCASE

Shimmyshowcase began in 2003 at Coffee Haven in Long Beach. In 2011 we moved to Viento y Agua Coffee House, where we danced every month until COVID-19 brought Shimmyshowcase at Viento y Agua to an end in March 2020. Our search for a new Shimmyshowcase venue yielded a generous offer from the owners of Babouch Moroccan Restaurant in San Pedro, CA! Shimmyshowcase made its spectacular debut at Babouch on Sunday, July 17, 2022 to a restaurant filled to capacity with a large crowd of enthusiastic Shimmyshowcase supporters, many of whom got up to dance with the performers in an impromptu grand finale to finish off a thoroughly enjoyable evening. Although the place and city have changed, Shimmyshowcase continues its original mission to provide a place where all dancers, from beginners to seasoned performers, are welcome to perform in front of a warm, appreciative audience. Performers and guests alike keep returning for the temporary escape from the stress of everyday life into this relaxing and fun environment to explore and enjoy middle eastern inspired dance. UPCOMING SHOWCASE CALENDAR AND DANCER OPPORTUNITIES

The SHIMMY SHOWCASE begins at 7 p.m. at I-CANDY COFFEE in Long Beach (1708 E. Broadway -- 562-437-3785).

July 25 – Xandra will be coordinating this Shimmyshowcase and is thrilled to have Alexandra Samuel, Devon and Jamali Bellydance Trio performing on this evening. Please join us at I-Candy Coffee to enjoy a gourmet coffee drink (hot or cold) or tea and perhaps a tasty sandwich or slice of cheesecake plus some sensational belly dancing!

August 1 – Coordinator Abraiha welcomes guest dancers Tahma , Ana, and Veronique to I-Candy’s magic carpet on this first Sunday in August. We hope you can come down to I-Candy to see these exquisite dancers enthrall you with their gorgeous interpretations of middle eastern dance.

August 8 – Saviya will be coordinating this evening’s Shimmyshowcase, and she has guest dancers Nova Kachina and Reba lined up to shimmy for you! We have room for more dancers, so if you would like a performance spot, please send an email to Shimmyshowcase@gmail.com and we’ll put you on the program!

August 15 - Ilana from the Om Sisters presents “Rock a Belly!” In case it isn’t clear, this is Rock ‘n Roll--belly dance style! We have Haven Bellydance troupe, Draca, and Delilah signed on as guest rockers/dancers to entertain the folks at I-Candy coffee with great dancing set to great music. So come on down, grab a cup of coffee and a slice of cheesecake or sandwich and settle in for a rollicking good time.

August 22 - Sarah al Nour & Alec Marken present Bands & Bellies 5! Please join us at I-Candy for this Shimmyshowcase featuring Live Music, vocalists and belly dancers performing to a range of styles from fusion to Middle Eastern. More details and dancer lineup to come in later weeks. This should be a fun, entertaining event, and we look forward to seeing you there!

August 29 - Abraiha is your Shimmyshowcase coordinator for this last traditional weekend of summer, and she would love to hear from dancers who would like to perform as our guests at I-Candy Coffee. If that would be you, please contact us at Shimmyshowcase@gmail.com.
