SHIMMY SHOWCASE

Shimmyshowcase began in 2003 at Coffee Haven in Long Beach. In 2011 we moved to Viento y Agua Coffee House, where we danced every month until COVID-19 brought Shimmyshowcase at Viento y Agua to an end in March 2020. Our search for a new Shimmyshowcase venue yielded a generous offer from the owners of Babouch Moroccan Restaurant in San Pedro, CA! Shimmyshowcase made its spectacular debut at Babouch on Sunday, July 17, 2022 to a restaurant filled to capacity with a large crowd of enthusiastic Shimmyshowcase supporters, many of whom got up to dance with the performers in an impromptu grand finale to finish off a thoroughly enjoyable evening. Although the place and city have changed, Shimmyshowcase continues its original mission to provide a place where all dancers, from beginners to seasoned performers, are welcome to perform in front of a warm, appreciative audience. Performers and guests alike keep returning for the temporary escape from the stress of everyday life into this relaxing and fun environment to explore and enjoy middle eastern inspired dance. We just learned today that Jade Restaurant, home to Shimmyshowcase since September 2023, is closing at 9:00 p.m. tonight for good! All Shimmyshowcase programs have been postponed indefinitely unless/until we find a new venue.

Shimmyshowcase has been doing so well these past several months, filling Jade’s patio with some of the most sensational performances we’ve seen in the 23 years since Shimmyshowcase began in a small coffee house in Long Beach. This makes the abrupt loss of our “home” all the more difficult.

We are looking into possible new venues to allow Shimmyshowcase to continue and will update you, should our search be successful.
