SHIMMY SHOWCASE

Shimmyshowcase began in 2003 at Coffee Haven in Long Beach. In 2011 we moved to Viento y Agua Coffee House, where we danced every month until COVID-19 brought Shimmyshowcase at Viento y Agua to an end in March 2020. Our search for a new Shimmyshowcase venue yielded a generous offer from the owners of Babouch Moroccan Restaurant in San Pedro, CA! Shimmyshowcase made its spectacular debut at Babouch on Sunday, July 17, 2022 to a restaurant filled to capacity with a large crowd of enthusiastic Shimmyshowcase supporters, many of whom got up to dance with the performers in an impromptu grand finale to finish off a thoroughly enjoyable evening. Although the place and city have changed, Shimmyshowcase continues its original mission to provide a place where all dancers, from beginners to seasoned performers, are welcome to perform in front of a warm, appreciative audience. Performers and guests alike keep returning for the temporary escape from the stress of everyday life into this relaxing and fun environment to explore and enjoy middle eastern inspired dance. UPCOMING SHIMMYSHOWCASE EVENTS

August 18 – Coordinator Yasmin returns with another great theme--“Gotta Dance!” Shalimar, Najma, Maritza, Severina, Taji, Jahnan, Na’ilah, Ladies of the Oasis, and Desert Mirage show you how much dance means to them with a dazzling display of talent. Make plans now to join them at Jade for a show you won’t want to miss!

Shimmyshowcase begins around 6:00 p.m. but early arrivals (reservations recommended, call 562.430.1111) are encouraged if you want to take advantage of the very reasonable Happy Hour prices. September 15—Saviya’s “Some Like it Hot!” is starting to sizzle with Sephira, Taji, Shonda Griffin, Iris Z. Specter dance troupe, Desert Mirage, and Tribe Roman Morga.

October 20—Ilana and Amber return to Jade to host “Shivershowcase!” Farasha and Zuzu Bowie are already lined up to share their spookiest dance moves with all who dare to enter Jade on the Water for Shimmyshowcase’s most popular Halloween event.
