SHIMMY SHOWCASE

Shimmyshowcase began in 2003 at Coffee Haven in Long Beach. In 2011 we moved to Viento y Agua Coffee House, where we danced every month until COVID-19 brought Shimmyshowcase at Viento y Agua to an end in March 2020. Our search for a new Shimmyshowcase venue yielded a generous offer from the owners of Babouch Moroccan Restaurant in San Pedro, CA! Shimmyshowcase made its spectacular debut at Babouch on Sunday, July 17, 2022 to a restaurant filled to capacity with a large crowd of enthusiastic Shimmyshowcase supporters, many of whom got up to dance with the performers in an impromptu grand finale to finish off a thoroughly enjoyable evening. Although the place and city have changed, Shimmyshowcase continues its original mission to provide a place where all dancers, from beginners to seasoned performers, are welcome to perform in front of a warm, appreciative audience. Performers and guests alike keep returning for the temporary escape from the stress of everyday life into this relaxing and fun environment to explore and enjoy middle eastern inspired dance. SHIMMY SHOWCASE takes place on the 3rd Saturday of the month at 6:30 p.m. at Viento y Agua Coffee House in Long Beach at 4007 East 4th Street; (562) 434-1182.

July 20th –Draca and Shaheen bring the “Jewels of Shimmyshowcase” to Viento y Agua!  Guest dancers Sephira, Shelly, Musa, Ewanni, Suzanna, Tiger Lily, Meryem Vani, Dalilah, and Ritual Alchemy Dance Co. will add their brilliance to the Viento y Agua stage.  Please join us for what is sure to be a real gem of a Shimmyshowcase!   .                                              

August 17 – “Simply BellyDance” ~ Guest Coordinator May Fearnley with Atlantis (of Belly Dancer of the Universe), Asya, Michelle, Mayra, Devra Bahira, Aaron, Dejah, and Beyajja Dance Theater; plus live drumming by Jeff! 

September 21 –  “Goth Night” ~ Saviya & Draca  

October 19 –  “Shivershowcase” ~  Ilana & Saviya

November 16  - Amber Ray  (Theme to be determined)
