SHIMMY SHOWCASE

Shimmyshowcase began in 2003 at Coffee Haven in Long Beach. In 2011 we moved to Viento y Agua Coffee House, where we danced every month until COVID-19 brought Shimmyshowcase at Viento y Agua to an end in March 2020. Our search for a new Shimmyshowcase venue yielded a generous offer from the owners of Babouch Moroccan Restaurant in San Pedro, CA! Shimmyshowcase made its spectacular debut at Babouch on Sunday, July 17, 2022 to a restaurant filled to capacity with a large crowd of enthusiastic Shimmyshowcase supporters, many of whom got up to dance with the performers in an impromptu grand finale to finish off a thoroughly enjoyable evening. Although the place and city have changed, Shimmyshowcase continues its original mission to provide a place where all dancers, from beginners to seasoned performers, are welcome to perform in front of a warm, appreciative audience. Performers and guests alike keep returning for the temporary escape from the stress of everyday life into this relaxing and fun environment to explore and enjoy middle eastern inspired dance. UPCOMING SHIMMYSHOWCASE EVENTS

SHIMMY SHOWCASE takes place on one Saturday each month at 6:30 p.m. at Viento y Agua Coffee House in Long Beach, CA at 4007 East 4^th Street; 562-434-1182.

This week Viento y Agua told us that they will be closing earlier on Saturdays beginning in November and will no longer be able to accommodate Shimmyshowcase on Saturday evenings. However, our October program will go on as scheduled.

We have proposed an alternate time for our November and December 2017 showcases, but have not received a response yet. We are also seeking a new venue for Shimmyshowcase beginning in 2018. We will keep you apprised of any developments regarding Shimmyshowcase’s future.

In the meantime, we hope that everyone in the Shimmyshowcase family will join us for Ilana’s “Shivershowcase” on October 21, which will go on as scheduled at 6:30 p.m. Her cast of ghostly dancers in the form of Amber, Jannah, Suzanna, Christina Rizkallah, Meryem Vani, Vanina, Musa, Darcy & Karla, and the Om Sisters won’t scare you to death but will delight you with their scintillating moves. We encourage everyone to come in your favorite scary costume to make this special event even more fun!
