SHIMMY SHOWCASE

Shimmyshowcase began in 2003 at Coffee Haven in Long Beach. In 2011 we moved to Viento y Agua Coffee House, where we danced every month until COVID-19 brought Shimmyshowcase at Viento y Agua to an end in March 2020. Our search for a new Shimmyshowcase venue yielded a generous offer from the owners of Babouch Moroccan Restaurant in San Pedro, CA! Shimmyshowcase made its spectacular debut at Babouch on Sunday, July 17, 2022 to a restaurant filled to capacity with a large crowd of enthusiastic Shimmyshowcase supporters, many of whom got up to dance with the performers in an impromptu grand finale to finish off a thoroughly enjoyable evening. Although the place and city have changed, Shimmyshowcase continues its original mission to provide a place where all dancers, from beginners to seasoned performers, are welcome to perform in front of a warm, appreciative audience. Performers and guests alike keep returning for the temporary escape from the stress of everyday life into this relaxing and fun environment to explore and enjoy middle eastern inspired dance. UPCOMING SHIMMYSHOWCASE EVENTS

During 2016, SHIMMY SHOWCASE will take place on the third Saturday of each month at 6:30 p.m. at Viento y Agua Coffee House in Long Beach, CA at 4007 East 4^th Street; 562-434-1182.

October 15 – It’s time once again for the scariest Shimmyshowcase of the year, the ever popular “Shivershowcase” belly dance Spooktacular, brought to you by our own mistress of Halloween haunting, Ilana! She invites you to join her on this frightful evening with her coterie of dancing ghosts, goblins, witches, and zombies in the form of Suzanna, Jannah, Amber, Sarah al Nour, Tamara, Christina, Meryem Vani, Safiyah, Sahira and the Om Sisters in a program that is sure to give you thrills and chills. Costumes are encouraged for all who dare to attend!

November 19 - Draca (Theme to be announced) - Dancer Sign-Ups begin on October 19

December 17 - Saviya (Theme to be announced) - Dancer Sign-Ups begin on November 17
