SHIMMY SHOWCASE

Shimmyshowcase began in 2003 at Coffee Haven in Long Beach. In 2011 we moved to Viento y Agua Coffee House, where we danced every month until COVID-19 brought Shimmyshowcase at Viento y Agua to an end in March 2020. Our search for a new Shimmyshowcase venue yielded a generous offer from the owners of Babouch Moroccan Restaurant in San Pedro, CA! Shimmyshowcase made its spectacular debut at Babouch on Sunday, July 17, 2022 to a restaurant filled to capacity with a large crowd of enthusiastic Shimmyshowcase supporters, many of whom got up to dance with the performers in an impromptu grand finale to finish off a thoroughly enjoyable evening. Although the place and city have changed, Shimmyshowcase continues its original mission to provide a place where all dancers, from beginners to seasoned performers, are welcome to perform in front of a warm, appreciative audience. Performers and guests alike keep returning for the temporary escape from the stress of everyday life into this relaxing and fun environment to explore and enjoy middle eastern inspired dance. UPCOMING SHIMMYSHOWCASE EVENTS

During 2015, SHIMMY SHOWCASE will take place on the third Saturday of each month at 7:00 p.m. at Viento y Agua Coffee House in Long Beach at 4007 East 4^th Street; 562-434-1182.

April 18 - Mellow out in April as Amber and guest dancers Azira, Christina Rizkallah, Suzanna, Adora, Tamara, and Taliee present another Shimmyshowcase favorite—Reggae night! We still have dance spots available, so if you’d like to try mixing shimmies with a Jamaican beat (they go together very well!) please contact us at Shimmyshowcase@gmail.com. .

May 16 – Saviya/Xandra (Once Upon a Time—A Shimmyshowcase Tale) - Dancer Sign-Ups begin on April 16—ALL NOTE—Saviya and Xandra are trying something new and exciting with this theme—for which we are looking for dancers who can incorporate a fairy tale concept in their routine. Concepts may come from childhood fairy tales, fables, mythology, or other variations of fantasy stories. Dancers desiring to be part of this new theme will need to provide their concept before they will be confirmed as performers for the May 16 program. (Note—zoological concepts (i.e. animal characters) are encouraged!) To help plan for this event, any dancer who is interested in this program, and believes she/he can provide their concept by the April 16 sign-up date may reply to this message before April 16 to let Xandra know of your interest. I will provide tentative acceptance or wait-list status beforehand, which will be confirmed on or shortly after April 16 only for dancers who provide their fairy tale concepts by that time. Your concepts will furnish the material that Saviya and Xandra will weave into “A Shimmyshowcase Tale!”

June 20 – Draca (Goth Night) - Dancer Sign-Ups begin on May 20

July 18 – Ilana (Movies) - Dancer Sign-Ups begin on June 18
