SHIMMY SHOWCASE

Shimmyshowcase began in 2003 at Coffee Haven in Long Beach. In 2011 we moved to Viento y Agua Coffee House, where we danced every month until COVID-19 brought Shimmyshowcase at Viento y Agua to an end in March 2020. Our search for a new Shimmyshowcase venue yielded a generous offer from the owners of Babouch Moroccan Restaurant in San Pedro, CA! Shimmyshowcase made its spectacular debut at Babouch on Sunday, July 17, 2022 to a restaurant filled to capacity with a large crowd of enthusiastic Shimmyshowcase supporters, many of whom got up to dance with the performers in an impromptu grand finale to finish off a thoroughly enjoyable evening. Although the place and city have changed, Shimmyshowcase continues its original mission to provide a place where all dancers, from beginners to seasoned performers, are welcome to perform in front of a warm, appreciative audience. Performers and guests alike keep returning for the temporary escape from the stress of everyday life into this relaxing and fun environment to explore and enjoy middle eastern inspired dance. UPCOMING SHIMMYSHOWCASE EVENTS

During 2015, SHIMMY SHOWCASE will take place on the third Saturday of each month at 7:00 p.m. at Viento y Agua Coffee House in Long Beach at 4007 East 4^th Street; 562-434-1182.

January 17 – Shimmyshowcase begins the new year with an evening of “Simply Belly Dance.” Coordinator Abraiha welcomes guest dancers Safiyeh, Christina Rizkallah, Yasmin, LaLa, Suzana, Bella Noor, Jheri St. James, Ewanni and Lorilie.

Please note that there will not be an open “dancer call” for our February 21 Shimmyshowcase, which will be a special event. Send a reply here if you are interested in possible performance opportunities, and I will forward your inquiry to guest coordinator Katerina, who is putting together the February program

March 21 – Shimmyshowcase celebrates its 12th Anniversary!

April 18 - Saviya/Ilana (The Blues) – Dancer Sign-Ups begin on March 18

May 16 – Amber (Reggae) - Dancer Sign-Ups begin on April 16
