SHIMMY SHOWCASE

Shimmyshowcase began in 2003 at Coffee Haven in Long Beach. In 2011 we moved to Viento y Agua Coffee House, where we danced every month until COVID-19 brought Shimmyshowcase at Viento y Agua to an end in March 2020. Our search for a new Shimmyshowcase venue yielded a generous offer from the owners of Babouch Moroccan Restaurant in San Pedro, CA! Shimmyshowcase made its spectacular debut at Babouch on Sunday, July 17, 2022 to a restaurant filled to capacity with a large crowd of enthusiastic Shimmyshowcase supporters, many of whom got up to dance with the performers in an impromptu grand finale to finish off a thoroughly enjoyable evening. Although the place and city have changed, Shimmyshowcase continues its original mission to provide a place where all dancers, from beginners to seasoned performers, are welcome to perform in front of a warm, appreciative audience. Performers and guests alike keep returning for the temporary escape from the stress of everyday life into this relaxing and fun environment to explore and enjoy middle eastern inspired dance. SATURDAY March 23 - Shimmyshowcase celebrates our 10^th ANNIVERSARY! Mark your calendars now, for your Shimmyshowcase coordinators are planning a special evening. In recognition of our milestone anniversary, Shimmyshowcase celebrates “A Night at the Oscars” featuring past and present Shimmyshowcase coordinators Alexiis, Saviya/Aileen, Amber, Draca, and Jannah plus invited guest dancers Sarah al Nour, Bella, Kamar, Jayel, and Beach Bellies. However, the real “stars” on this evening will be our loyal audience who has supported us for the past ten years! Given the success of last year’s “Steampunk” night, when many in our audience came in full Steampunk regalia, we encourage our supporters to dress up in your Oscar finery for prizes will be awarded to the most glamorous, striking and adventurous attire. Whether your style is 40’s glam, or more avant-garde, we hope you’ll join in the fun by dressing in your Oscar best. It all gets underway at 7:00 p.m. at Viento y Agua, so be sure to arrive early so you can show off your finery.
