SHIMMY SHOWCASE

Shimmyshowcase began in 2003 at Coffee Haven in Long Beach. In 2011 we moved to Viento y Agua Coffee House, where we danced every month until COVID-19 brought Shimmyshowcase at Viento y Agua to an end in March 2020. Our search for a new Shimmyshowcase venue yielded a generous offer from the owners of Babouch Moroccan Restaurant in San Pedro, CA! Shimmyshowcase made its spectacular debut at Babouch on Sunday, July 17, 2022 to a restaurant filled to capacity with a large crowd of enthusiastic Shimmyshowcase supporters, many of whom got up to dance with the performers in an impromptu grand finale to finish off a thoroughly enjoyable evening. Although the place and city have changed, Shimmyshowcase continues its original mission to provide a place where all dancers, from beginners to seasoned performers, are welcome to perform in front of a warm, appreciative audience. Performers and guests alike keep returning for the temporary escape from the stress of everyday life into this relaxing and fun environment to explore and enjoy middle eastern inspired dance. August 26 - Ilana returns to host another Shimmyshowcase with guest dancers Masa, Angelica, Pakita and Rosé. With such amazingly talented performers, we are sure you are going to enjoy this Shimmyshowcase, so please mark your calendars and plan to join us at Viento y Agua!

September 2—NO SHIMMYSHOWCASE – Enjoy your Labor Day weekend!

September 9 – Coordinator Amber welcomes Perizad, Saahira, and Natalia to delight you with their masterful interpretations of middle eastern dance styles and introduces Tamara to the Shimmyshowcase family! These awesome performers are sure to guarantee a splendid evening of dance entertainment, so be sure you plan to join us for a wonderful Shimmyshowcase!

September 16 - Your Shimmyshowcase for this mid-September Sunday features an abundance of talent. Guest dancers Kamar, Aianna, Lydia, and Erica are sure to please you, and if that isn’t enough, we have Draca in the role of coordinator! We know this wonderful cast of performers will delight everyone who comes down to Viento y Agua, so please mark your calendars and be sure to join us.

September 23 – Saviya presents another popular Shimmyshowcase theme with “A Touch of Burlesque.” Think back to those days when Burlesque had its beginnings, when a glimpse of a thigh was scintillating, and shimmies scandalous. We have Dalilah, Meryem Vani, LaLa, and Bella lined up to tantalize you with their fusion of vintage burlesque and belly dancing. To avoid any misconceptions, please note the same “G-Rated” guidelines for all Shimmyshowcase programs apply to this one as well; in other words, we always welcome audience members of any age from 1 to 100!
