SHIMMY SHOWCASE

Shimmyshowcase began in 2003 at Coffee Haven in Long Beach. In 2011 we moved to Viento y Agua Coffee House, where we danced every month until COVID-19 brought Shimmyshowcase at Viento y Agua to an end in March 2020. Our search for a new Shimmyshowcase venue yielded a generous offer from the owners of Babouch Moroccan Restaurant in San Pedro, CA! Shimmyshowcase made its spectacular debut at Babouch on Sunday, July 17, 2022 to a restaurant filled to capacity with a large crowd of enthusiastic Shimmyshowcase supporters, many of whom got up to dance with the performers in an impromptu grand finale to finish off a thoroughly enjoyable evening. Although the place and city have changed, Shimmyshowcase continues its original mission to provide a place where all dancers, from beginners to seasoned performers, are welcome to perform in front of a warm, appreciative audience. Performers and guests alike keep returning for the temporary escape from the stress of everyday life into this relaxing and fun environment to explore and enjoy middle eastern inspired dance. UPCOMING SHOWCASE CALENDAR

SHIMMY SHOWCASE begins on most Sundays at 5:30 p.m. at Viento y Agua Coffee House in Long Beach at 4007 East 4^th Street; 562-434-1182. Please refer to the detailed schedule below for more information about upcoming showcases and performance opportunities.

July 8 - Saviya returns with those lovely belly dancers from Laguna Beach, JJ & the Habibis! These ladies always put on a great show, which you won’t want to miss, so come join your friends at Viento y Agua, grab one of their delicious beverages or food items, and find yourself a great spot from which to enjoy the show.

July 15 - Abraiha returns to host another Shimmyshowcase and welcomes the stunning Jaquelina and IrinaXara, plus new bellydancer Sasha, sensational Sufi dancing by Nicole, and Pepe Gonzalez and his Salsa dancers. With such a fabulous lineup, you want to be sure to make this show! Please plan to arrive early so you can get some refreshment and a place to sit in time for our 5:30 pm start. We’ve got a talent packed program this evening, and you won’t want to miss a minute of it!

July 22 - NO SHIMMYSHOWCASE

July 29 – Shimmyshowcase coordinator Amber will host this evening’s program, and welcomes guest dancers Jayel, Nova Kachina, and Sirens of the Sahara back for another performance. This is sure to be a fantastic Shimmyshowcase that you won’t want to miss, so please mark your calendars and join us at Viento y Agua to support these wonderful dancers and enjoy their performances for you!

August 5 - Attention everyone for a Shimmyshowcase first-- “The Male Animal!” Coordinator Saviya welcomes fabulous male dancers Leon, Ewanni, and Paul! This is guaranteed to be an exciting, energy packed evening with some spectacular moves, so be sure you don’t miss this show because it will be smoking hot!

August 12 – Coordinator Draca presents “Industrial Goth” featuring guest dancers Reba, Nova Kachina, Bella, and Aleksia. To help set the appropriate dark mood, we invite everyone to come dressed in your favorite Goth ensemble. If you don’t know what that is, just wear black! We hope you can come down and watch these wonderful dancers as they do the gothic shimmy.

August 19 - NO SHIMMYSHOWCASE

August 26 - Ilana returns to host another Shimmyshowcase with guest dancers Natalia, Masa, and Angelica. We have room for one more dancer, so if you would like to perform, please reply to this message or send an email to Shimmyshowcase@gmail.com.
