SHIMMY SHOWCASE

Shimmyshowcase began in 2003 at Coffee Haven in Long Beach. In 2011 we moved to Viento y Agua Coffee House, where we danced every month until COVID-19 brought Shimmyshowcase at Viento y Agua to an end in March 2020. Our search for a new Shimmyshowcase venue yielded a generous offer from the owners of Babouch Moroccan Restaurant in San Pedro, CA! Shimmyshowcase made its spectacular debut at Babouch on Sunday, July 17, 2022 to a restaurant filled to capacity with a large crowd of enthusiastic Shimmyshowcase supporters, many of whom got up to dance with the performers in an impromptu grand finale to finish off a thoroughly enjoyable evening. Although the place and city have changed, Shimmyshowcase continues its original mission to provide a place where all dancers, from beginners to seasoned performers, are welcome to perform in front of a warm, appreciative audience. Performers and guests alike keep returning for the temporary escape from the stress of everyday life into this relaxing and fun environment to explore and enjoy middle eastern inspired dance. UPCOMING SHOWCASE CALENDAR

SHIMMY SHOWCASE begins on most Sundays at 5:30 p.m. at Viento y Agua Coffee House in Long Beach at 4007 East 4^th Street; 562-434-1182. Occasionally we have Saturday showcases beginning a bit later. Please refer to the detailed schedule below for more information.

May 20 - Abraiha welcomes May, and Janice, returning to Shimmyshowcase to perform their dazzling moves for you and introduces Kelsey in her Shimmyshowcase debut.

May 27 – Shimmyshowcase presents “In Memoriam.” This will be a program of reflection and remembrance dedicated to those who have impacted our lives. Coordinator Xandra is thrilled to welcome the exquisite Kamar, Bathsheba, Sabrina, Zephira, and male dancer Daa-Uud to Viento y Agua on this Memorial Day eve.

June 3—NO SHIMMYSHOWCASE –this is Cairo Caravan weekend. For more info check www.mecda.org .

June 10 - Draca will be your hostess for this Shimmyshowcase, and she welcomes Aleksia and new dancers Aianna and Francesca taking their first turns on the Shimmyshowcase dance floor! June 17 – NO SHIMMYSHOWCASE -- Happy Fathers’ Day!

June 24 – Shimmyshowcase returns with another popular theme-- Reggae Night—brought to you by coordinator Amber and featuring guest dancers Opal Zapphira, Nadirah, and Leon! With this fabulous dancer lineup, this is guaranteed to be a spectacular show, so be sure to mark this date on your calendars and shimmy on down to Viento y Agua for some mellow middle eastern moves.
