SHIMMY SHOWCASE

Shimmyshowcase began in 2003 at Coffee Haven in Long Beach. In 2011 we moved to Viento y Agua Coffee House, where we danced every month until COVID-19 brought Shimmyshowcase at Viento y Agua to an end in March 2020. Our search for a new Shimmyshowcase venue yielded a generous offer from the owners of Babouch Moroccan Restaurant in San Pedro, CA! Shimmyshowcase made its spectacular debut at Babouch on Sunday, July 17, 2022 to a restaurant filled to capacity with a large crowd of enthusiastic Shimmyshowcase supporters, many of whom got up to dance with the performers in an impromptu grand finale to finish off a thoroughly enjoyable evening. Although the place and city have changed, Shimmyshowcase continues its original mission to provide a place where all dancers, from beginners to seasoned performers, are welcome to perform in front of a warm, appreciative audience. Performers and guests alike keep returning for the temporary escape from the stress of everyday life into this relaxing and fun environment to explore and enjoy middle eastern inspired dance. UPCOMING SHOWCASE CALENDAR

SUNDAY SHIMMY SHOWCASE begins on most Sundays at 5:30 p.m. at Viento y Agua Coffee House in Long Beach at 4007 East 4th Street; 562-434-1182. Occasionally we have Saturday showcases beginning a bit later. Please refer to the detailed schedule below for more information.

April 15 - Amber returns to coordinate this Shimmyshowcase with the Gypsy Sisters, Aleksia, Bella and Ewanni as guest dancers.

April 22 - Draca welcomes guest dancers Sabrina, Lala, Dalilah, and Tehani and her student dance ensemble to dazzle you with some great bellydancing moves.

April 29 - Blues is in the House on this night as coordinator Ilana returns with this popular Shimmyshowcase theme and welcomes guest dancers Rosé, Carmella Fatale, Jayel, Rima, and Tehani. If you’re a belly dance fan who also loves Blues or Jazz, then this is the showcase for you! We have some fabulous dancers lined up who will show you some great moves. Please join us at Viento y Agua this Sunday for a wonderful evening of great dancing and music.

May 5 (Saturday) - Shimmyshowcase presents a special Saturday evening program as Viento y Agua goes back to the Victorian era with Saviya presenting a Vaudvillian/Victorian inspired belly dancing program with guest dancers Anastasia, Rebekah, Belly Muñeca, Bella, Carmella Fatale, and fellow Showcase coordinator Draca. Our very special guest artist and friend DeAnna Cameron, inspiration for this showcase, will read from her latest vaudeville-themed novel set in the Victorian era and will be autographing copies of her new book during the break where you may be further entertained by a surprise roving musician! We encourage everyone—guests and performers--to set the mood by wearing Victorian (including steampunk) costumes. Prizes will be awarded for the best ones! This special Saturday Shimmyshowcase will begin around 7:00 pm on May 5. If you love belly dance, vaudeville, or just dressing in Victorian/steam punk attire, mark your calendars now so you can join us for this blast from the past!

May 13—Mothers’ Day—DARK

May 20 - Abraiha welcomes May, Rosé, and Janice, returning to Shimmyshowcase to perform their dazzling moves for you and introduces Kelsey in her Shimmyshowcase debut.

May 27 – Shimmyshowcase presents “In Memoriam.” This will be a program of reflection and remembrance dedicated to those who have impacted our lives. Coordinator Xandra is thrilled to welcome the exquisite Kamar, Bathsheba, and Sabrina to Viento y Agua on this Memorial Day eve. Other dancers who would like to perform for this special Memorial belly dance program please contact us at Shimmyshowcase@gmail.com for a performance spot.
