SHIMMY SHOWCASE

Shimmyshowcase began in 2003 at Coffee Haven in Long Beach. In 2011 we moved to Viento y Agua Coffee House, where we danced every month until COVID-19 brought Shimmyshowcase at Viento y Agua to an end in March 2020. Our search for a new Shimmyshowcase venue yielded a generous offer from the owners of Babouch Moroccan Restaurant in San Pedro, CA! Shimmyshowcase made its spectacular debut at Babouch on Sunday, July 17, 2022 to a restaurant filled to capacity with a large crowd of enthusiastic Shimmyshowcase supporters, many of whom got up to dance with the performers in an impromptu grand finale to finish off a thoroughly enjoyable evening. Although the place and city have changed, Shimmyshowcase continues its original mission to provide a place where all dancers, from beginners to seasoned performers, are welcome to perform in front of a warm, appreciative audience. Performers and guests alike keep returning for the temporary escape from the stress of everyday life into this relaxing and fun environment to explore and enjoy middle eastern inspired dance. For most up to date schedule and dancer opportunities, please email us at Shimmyshowcase@gmail.com and we'll add you to our weekly email schedule. We hope to see you soon at Shimmyshowcase! >

March 10 – (that’s right—a SATURDAY!) --Shimmyshowcase celebrates its 9th anniversary with a special program featuring LIVE MUSIC by our favorite musicians—Saf Mavi! Dedicated to Shimmyshowcase coordinators past and present, our program features Saviya, Draca, and Alexiis, as well as Ilana, Amber, and Jannah of the Om Sisters. Plus we have Leon (Siraj), Kamar, and Marguerite as our special guests. This Shimmyshowcase will be so spectacular that it will take place (for the first time) on a SATURDAY evening! We’re also starting a little later—around 7:00 p.m. Be sure to join us for what we guarantee to be an awesome program in celebration of Shimmyshowcase’s reincarnation in our new home, Viento y Agua Coffee House! Arrive early so you can pick up a healthy vegetarian salad or sandwich before the first set; and we’ll treat you to some yummy cake at the break, followed by a second set of fabulous music and dancing. You won’t find such an entertainment deal anywhere else, so don’t miss this opportunity to celebrate with us!
