SHIMMY SHOWCASE

Shimmyshowcase began in 2003 at Coffee Haven in Long Beach. In 2011 we moved to Viento y Agua Coffee House, where we danced every month until COVID-19 brought Shimmyshowcase at Viento y Agua to an end in March 2020. Our search for a new Shimmyshowcase venue yielded a generous offer from the owners of Babouch Moroccan Restaurant in San Pedro, CA! Shimmyshowcase made its spectacular debut at Babouch on Sunday, July 17, 2022 to a restaurant filled to capacity with a large crowd of enthusiastic Shimmyshowcase supporters, many of whom got up to dance with the performers in an impromptu grand finale to finish off a thoroughly enjoyable evening. Although the place and city have changed, Shimmyshowcase continues its original mission to provide a place where all dancers, from beginners to seasoned performers, are welcome to perform in front of a warm, appreciative audience. Performers and guests alike keep returning for the temporary escape from the stress of everyday life into this relaxing and fun environment to explore and enjoy middle eastern inspired dance. UPCOMING SHOWCASE CALENDAR & DANCER OPPORTUNITIES

January 8 – The New Year is about beginnings—the start of another year brings new resolutions. Xandra celebrates the anniversary of her beginning with co-coordinator Draca. Joining them will be Beach Bellies with Meredith, Jade and our newest male dancer, King Nacho! As if that stellar lineup isn’t enough, special guest dancer, the fabulous Feiruz, will add her sparkle to this Shimmyshowcase! Don’t miss this unique opportunity to see her amazing mastery of dance orientale during her brief visit to So CA. Come early for a healthy veggie sandwich from Viento y Agua to eat while enjoying fabulous dance performances by these great artists; then stay afterward to indulge in birthday cake!

January 15 – Saviya welcomes guest dancers Reina, Rosé, Ana, and Shauntel to perform at Viento y Agua on this evening.

January 22 – Ilana will be your Shimmyshowcase coordinator this evening, and she welcomes guest dancers Dalilah, Rima, Paquita and Jayel.

January 29 – Amber hosts this Shimmyshowcase and welcomes newcomer Ingrid and Good Witch dance troupe to the Viento y Agua stage. We can still fit in another dancer, so if you would like to perform on this evening, please email us at Shimmyshowcase@gmail.com.
