SHIMMY SHOWCASE

Shimmyshowcase began in 2003 at Coffee Haven in Long Beach. In 2011 we moved to Viento y Agua Coffee House, where we danced every month until COVID-19 brought Shimmyshowcase at Viento y Agua to an end in March 2020. Our search for a new Shimmyshowcase venue yielded a generous offer from the owners of Babouch Moroccan Restaurant in San Pedro, CA! Shimmyshowcase made its spectacular debut at Babouch on Sunday, July 17, 2022 to a restaurant filled to capacity with a large crowd of enthusiastic Shimmyshowcase supporters, many of whom got up to dance with the performers in an impromptu grand finale to finish off a thoroughly enjoyable evening. Although the place and city have changed, Shimmyshowcase continues its original mission to provide a place where all dancers, from beginners to seasoned performers, are welcome to perform in front of a warm, appreciative audience. Performers and guests alike keep returning for the temporary escape from the stress of everyday life into this relaxing and fun environment to explore and enjoy middle eastern inspired dance. UPCOMING SHOWCASE CALENDAR

November 20 – Saviya presents Gypsy Magic with her troupe, Tribe Roman Morga and the fabulous Kamar and Draca and, as if that’s not enough, special guest musician Richie will accompany them on his violin to the beat of the TRM drummers. This Shimmyshowcase will be lively, colorful, perhaps a bit raucous and definitely a lot of fun so be sure to mark your calendars and join us at Viento y Agua as Shimmyshowcase goes to the gypsies!

November 27 – DARK – NO SHIMMYSHOWCASE-HAPPY THANKSGIVING!

December 4 – Abraiha returns to host her first Shimmyshowcase at Viento y Agua and the lovely Tahma, IrinaXara, Nadirah, Jade, and May will be performing!

December 11 – Shimmyshowcase presents an extra-special program hosted by Katerina with live traditional Turkish and Sufi music by SAF MAVI. Our featured guest performers Katerina & the Kabuki Dolls, Strawberry Butterfly, Akasha Star, Sarah al Nour, Taji, and Lee Ali, all astounding dancers, will make this one Shimmyshowcase you don’t want to miss. Tell all your friends to be sure and head for Viento y Agua this evening for our 5:30 pm show!

December 18 – Saviya hosts our final Shimmyshowcase of 2011 and celebrates the holidays and her birthday with a perfect theme – “Presents.” Jeweled, feathered, furred, silky and decadent gifts, wonderful surprises wrapped up with a big satin bow! Join Saviya on her special day and be gifted by the incredibly creative and talented dancing of Raks Bahlam, Kamar, Anastasia, and Ilana.
