SHIMMY SHOWCASE

Shimmyshowcase began in 2003 at Coffee Haven in Long Beach. In 2011 we moved to Viento y Agua Coffee House, where we danced every month until COVID-19 brought Shimmyshowcase at Viento y Agua to an end in March 2020. Our search for a new Shimmyshowcase venue yielded a generous offer from the owners of Babouch Moroccan Restaurant in San Pedro, CA! Shimmyshowcase made its spectacular debut at Babouch on Sunday, July 17, 2022 to a restaurant filled to capacity with a large crowd of enthusiastic Shimmyshowcase supporters, many of whom got up to dance with the performers in an impromptu grand finale to finish off a thoroughly enjoyable evening. Although the place and city have changed, Shimmyshowcase continues its original mission to provide a place where all dancers, from beginners to seasoned performers, are welcome to perform in front of a warm, appreciative audience. Performers and guests alike keep returning for the temporary escape from the stress of everyday life into this relaxing and fun environment to explore and enjoy middle eastern inspired dance. March 27 - Saviya will be your coordinator for this Shimmyshowcase, and she welcomes guest dancers Meredith, Bella Noor and…….??? A cancellation leaves us looking for another dancer, so if you would like to perform for this showcase, please email us at Shimmyshowcase@gmail.com for a performance spot.

April 3 - Jannah presents “Ethnic Spice” with guest dancers Dalilah, Astrid, and Rebecca. Put some spice in your Sunday evening and please join us for a tasty dance treat!

April 10 -- Amber is your coordinator for this Shimmyshowcase, and she welcomes Beach Bellies, and Ana to our magic carpet. Plus, she’ll be introducing Bathsheba making her first Shimmyshowcase appearance! Please join us in welcoming all these lovely ladies as they mesmerize you with their sensuous movements and captivating music.

April 17 -- Speakeasy! A night of roaring 1920's inspired entertainment! Prohibition, Jazz, Charleston, Dixieland, flappers, gangsters, the red light district...... We left the Victorian Era with its constraints, rules and prudishness to revel in the full throaty fun of the barely acceptable just-this-side of the wrong side of the tracks. On this evening join coordinator Saviya and guest dancers Draca and Bella as they transform I-Candy into a Speakeasy where you can leave behind the conventions of polite society, and indulge yourself in uninhibited revelry.
