SHIMMY SHOWCASE

Shimmyshowcase began in 2003 at Coffee Haven in Long Beach. In 2011 we moved to Viento y Agua Coffee House, where we danced every month until COVID-19 brought Shimmyshowcase at Viento y Agua to an end in March 2020. Our search for a new Shimmyshowcase venue yielded a generous offer from the owners of Babouch Moroccan Restaurant in San Pedro, CA! Shimmyshowcase made its spectacular debut at Babouch on Sunday, July 17, 2022 to a restaurant filled to capacity with a large crowd of enthusiastic Shimmyshowcase supporters, many of whom got up to dance with the performers in an impromptu grand finale to finish off a thoroughly enjoyable evening. Although the place and city have changed, Shimmyshowcase continues its original mission to provide a place where all dancers, from beginners to seasoned performers, are welcome to perform in front of a warm, appreciative audience. Performers and guests alike keep returning for the temporary escape from the stress of everyday life into this relaxing and fun environment to explore and enjoy middle eastern inspired dance. UPCOMING SHOWCASE CALENDAR & DANCER OPPORTUNITIES

February 13: On this day before Valentine’s Day, love is on the mind, and Shimmyshowcase coordinator Ilana welcomes the extraordinary Tehani, Rosé, and new Shimmyshowcase performers Rosella and Jayel as guest dancers, performing their interpretations of this day of romance which we know you will love! Please bring someone you love, whether it be family, friends, or lover and enjoy what is sure to be a special evening with some very special performances.

February 20 – DARK (No Shimmyshowcase) -- Belly Dancer of the Universe competition in Long Beach

February 27: Last month it was “Feathers & Fringe” and this time Saviya provides the opportunity for that and beyond as Shimmyshowcase celebrates Mardi Gras at I-Candy coffee with guest dancers Meryem Vani, Aileen, Reba and male dancer David. So don your mask and beads and share in the zany frivolity characteristic of this festive event at I-Candy Coffee!.

March 6: Abraiha will be your host for this Shimmyshowcase and she welcomes the elegant May, Nazila, Lois, Liz, and Liliana to I-Candy’s magic carpet. If you enjoy belly dancing in its classic form, you will love this program, so please come to this Shimmyshowcase and let these gorgeous ladies bedazzle you!

March 13 – Shimmyshowcase Anniversary Party! Can you believe we are celebrating our 8th Anniversary? Have we got a great Party planned for you! We’re still working on the program, but so far we are thrilled that Shimmyshowcase founders Katerina and Alexiis will be dancing again on I-Candy’s magic carpet. Plus, your present coordinators Saviya, Abraiha, the Om Sisters (Ilana, Jannah and Amber) and Xandra will be performing as well. Added to this is guest dancer Siraj and possibly another dancer or two! We encourage everyone to be at I-Candy by 6:30 pm so you can enjoy some munchies and perhaps one of the café’s tasty sandwiches along with a gourmet beverage and find your seat before the show begins. Be sure to join us on this extra special night as we celebrate 8 years of Shimmyshowcase with an amazing bellydance extravaganza!

March 20 - In recognition of the Spring equinox, coordinator and mother-to-be Ilana celebrates “Mother Earth” with guest dancers Nova Kachina and Haven Bellydance for this Shimmyshowcase. Ilana invites all Dancers with motherly inclinations to join her for this special, first time Shimmyshowcase theme. March 27 - Saviya will be your coordinator for this Shimmyshowcase, and she invites guest dancers who would like to perform to please email us at Shimmyshowcase@gmail.com for a spot.
