SHIMMY SHOWCASE

Shimmyshowcase began in 2003 at Coffee Haven in Long Beach. In 2011 we moved to Viento y Agua Coffee House, where we danced every month until COVID-19 brought Shimmyshowcase at Viento y Agua to an end in March 2020. Our search for a new Shimmyshowcase venue yielded a generous offer from the owners of Babouch Moroccan Restaurant in San Pedro, CA! Shimmyshowcase made its spectacular debut at Babouch on Sunday, July 17, 2022 to a restaurant filled to capacity with a large crowd of enthusiastic Shimmyshowcase supporters, many of whom got up to dance with the performers in an impromptu grand finale to finish off a thoroughly enjoyable evening. Although the place and city have changed, Shimmyshowcase continues its original mission to provide a place where all dancers, from beginners to seasoned performers, are welcome to perform in front of a warm, appreciative audience. Performers and guests alike keep returning for the temporary escape from the stress of everyday life into this relaxing and fun environment to explore and enjoy middle eastern inspired dance. For most up to date schedule and dancer opportunities, please email us at Shimmyshowcase@gmail.com and we'll add you to our weekly email schedule. We hope to see you soon at Shimmyshowcase! >

December 19 - Shimmy Showcase coordinator Saviya celebrates her Birthday Sagittarius style with lots of friends, music, and laughter! Since Sags love to party we are going to start early-- at 5pm! A wide mosaic of dance styles will be presented by Sister Sag Jheri St James and Sisters in dance, Deborah, Bella, Nova Kachina, Aileen, and Sarah al Nour. Saviya asks no presents please, unless you would like to donate pet supplies to go to the Laguna Beach animal shelter that Saviya is sponsoring this year. Food, toys, even old towels and tight woven blankets can be used in the pens. So treat yourself to a new set of bath towels and donate your old ones! :-) It is Saviya’s birthday wish that you please join us for this last Shimmyshowcase of 2010!

December 26 – NO SHIMMYSHOWCASE—Happy Holidays!

January 2, 2011—NO SHIMMYSHOWCASE—Happy New Year!

January 9: Xandra celebrates the beginning of a new Shimmyshowcase year and her birthday with the exquisite Draca, Kamar, Meryem Vani, Adrianne and Maria performing on the Shimmyshowcase magic carpet. Her wish is that you come down to I-Candy Coffee and enjoy a fantastic show in a cozy and friendly environment. We’d like to start a little earlier for this showcase—at 6:30 pm—to allow time for cake during the break! Xandra prefers you not bring any gift other than your presence; however, if you simply can’t arrive empty handed, please bring something that would appeal to a teenage boy or girl; e.g. new or slightly used (clean and in good condition) clothing/accessories or other items a teenager would use/wear. Xandra will donate them to Casa Youth Shelter (www.casayouthshelter.org) where she volunteers.

January 16: Calling all ATS (American Tribal Style) fans for a “tribalicious” Shimmyshowcase as Ilana presents Desert Lotus Tribal, Sayuri Tribal, Synergy Tribal, and Little Lotus Tribal.

January 23: Saviya brings back by popular demand “Feathers & Fringe!” Those rhinestone whores return as Shimmyshowcase goes Burlesque. Guest dancers Delilah, IrinaXara, Devon, and Rebecca will shake their fringe and flaunt their feathers on I-Candy’s magic carpet. If you think more is better but less is best, then you don’t want to miss this show!

January 30: Jannah goes back to the 20th century hippy era of the 60's and 70's with a psychedelic “flower power” theme night. We already have Taji and Najma signed on for his nostalgic theme. Any other baby boomers wishing to re-live their youthful days in dance—or any dancer who loves the music of this era-- please contact us at Shimmyshowcase@gmail.com for a performance spot.
