SHIMMY SHOWCASE

Shimmyshowcase began in 2003 at Coffee Haven in Long Beach. In 2011 we moved to Viento y Agua Coffee House, where we danced every month until COVID-19 brought Shimmyshowcase at Viento y Agua to an end in March 2020. Our search for a new Shimmyshowcase venue yielded a generous offer from the owners of Babouch Moroccan Restaurant in San Pedro, CA! Shimmyshowcase made its spectacular debut at Babouch on Sunday, July 17, 2022 to a restaurant filled to capacity with a large crowd of enthusiastic Shimmyshowcase supporters, many of whom got up to dance with the performers in an impromptu grand finale to finish off a thoroughly enjoyable evening. Although the place and city have changed, Shimmyshowcase continues its original mission to provide a place where all dancers, from beginners to seasoned performers, are welcome to perform in front of a warm, appreciative audience. Performers and guests alike keep returning for the temporary escape from the stress of everyday life into this relaxing and fun environment to explore and enjoy middle eastern inspired dance. UPCOMING SHOWCASE CALENDAR

The SHIMMY SHOWCASE begins at 7 p.m. at I-CANDY COFFEE in Long Beach (1708 E. Broadway -- 562-437-3785).

June 20 – Xandra welcomes guest artists Dancing Flower, Nichole, Meryem Vani, and Raks Bahlam to our magic carpet on this Summer’s eve. We hope you can join our friendly Shimmyshowcase family at I-Candy to see these fabulous dancers perform.

June 27 – Abraiha welcomes the gorgeous May, Lapis, and Lois to the Shimmyshowcase magic carpet. It’s always a great show when our guests from Dance Garden perform at Shimmyshowcase, and we hope you can join us for a wonderful evening of bellydancing.

July 4— NO SHIMMYSHOWCASE -- Happy 4th of July!

July 11 - What are your dreams? Do they tend toward fantasy or more mundane things? Are they romantic or scary? Are dreams central to your favorite movies? Coordinator Savia and guest dancers Meryem Vani, Veronika, and Bella will share their dreams interpreted through dance. We have room for one more dancer, so if you would like to share your dreams in dance with our Shimmyshowcase community on this evening, please email us at Shimmyshowcase@gmail.com.

July 18 – NO SHIMMYSHOWCASE – but Shimmyshowcase coordinator Abraiha is hosting a dinner with middle eastern and Latin dance performances featuring some of our Shimmyshowcase dancers (Marlena, Taji Abraiha) at Luminarias restaurant (www.luminariasrestaurant.com), 323-268-4177; email reservations at reservations071810@yahoo.com .

July 25 – Xandra will be coordinating this Shimmyshowcase and is thrilled to have Alexandra Samuel performing on this evening. We have openings for more guest dancers, so if you would like to perform for this showcase, please contact us at Shimmyshowcase@gmail.com.
