SHIMMY SHOWCASE

Shimmyshowcase began in 2003 at Coffee Haven in Long Beach. In 2011 we moved to Viento y Agua Coffee House, where we danced every month until COVID-19 brought Shimmyshowcase at Viento y Agua to an end in March 2020. Our search for a new Shimmyshowcase venue yielded a generous offer from the owners of Babouch Moroccan Restaurant in San Pedro, CA! Shimmyshowcase made its spectacular debut at Babouch on Sunday, July 17, 2022 to a restaurant filled to capacity with a large crowd of enthusiastic Shimmyshowcase supporters, many of whom got up to dance with the performers in an impromptu grand finale to finish off a thoroughly enjoyable evening. Although the place and city have changed, Shimmyshowcase continues its original mission to provide a place where all dancers, from beginners to seasoned performers, are welcome to perform in front of a warm, appreciative audience. Performers and guests alike keep returning for the temporary escape from the stress of everyday life into this relaxing and fun environment to explore and enjoy middle eastern inspired dance. UPCOMING SHOWCASE CALENDAR

June 13 - The Witching Hour with Alexiis: Do you know what time it is? Is it getting late? What happens when you don't pay attention? Join Alexiis and special guests Good Witch Dance Company, Katerina, La Shonda, Ravenmoon, and Jessica to honor the tipping point from the light into the dark.

June 20 – Xandra welcomes guest artists Dancing Flower, Nichole, Meryem Vani, Ana, and Raks Bahlam to our magic carpet on this Summer’s eve. We hope you can join our friendly Shimmyshowcase family at I-Candy to see these fabulous dancers perform.

June 27 – Abraiha welcomes the gorgeous May, Lapis, and Lois to the Shimmyshowcase magic carpet. It’s always a great show when our guests from Dance Garden perform at Shimmyshowcase, and we hope you can join us for a wonderful evening of bellydancing.

July 4— NO SHIMMYSHOWCASE -- Happy 4th of July!

July 11 - What are your dreams? Do they tend toward fantasy or more mundane things? Are they romantic or scary? Are dreams central to your favorite movies? Coordinator Savia and guest dancers Meryem Vani and Veronika will share their dreams interpreted through dance. We invite other dancers to perform their own interpretation of “dreams.” If you would like a performance spot, please email us at Shimmyshowcase@gmail.com.
