Shimmyshowcase debut at Jade, September 17, 2023

SHIMMY SHOWCASE

Shimmyshowcase began in 2003 at Coffee Haven in Long Beach. In 2011 we moved to Viento y Agua Coffee House, where we danced every month until COVID-19 brought Shimmyshowcase at Viento y Agua to an end in March 2020. Our search for a new Shimmyshowcase venue yielded a generous offer from the owners of Babouch Moroccan Restaurant in San Pedro, CA! Shimmyshowcase made its spectacular debut at Babouch on Sunday, July 17, 2022 to a restaurant filled to capacity with a large crowd of enthusiastic Shimmyshowcase supporters, many of whom got up to dance with the performers in an impromptu grand finale to finish off a thoroughly enjoyable evening. Shimmyshowcase concluded an amazing, but all too short, run at Babouch when they closed in August, 2023. Shimmyshowcase returned to Long Beach on September 17, 2023 at Jade Restaurant, which was our home for another 31 months. Sadly, Jade closed on March 22, 2026, leaving Shimmyshowcase again in search of a new home. We remain optimistic that Shimmyshowcase will, once again, find a new home for our unique style of belly dancing. SATURDAY March 23  - Shimmyshowcase celebrates our  10th ANNIVERSARY!    Mark your calendars now, for your Shimmyshowcase coordinators are planning a special evening.  In recognition of our milestone anniversary, Shimmyshowcase celebrates “A Night at the Oscars” featuring  past and present Shimmyshowcase coordinators Alexiis, Saviya/Aileen, Amber, Draca, and Jannah plus invited guest dancers Sarah al Nour, Bella, Kamar, Jayel,  and Beach Bellies.   However, the real “stars” on this evening will be our loyal audience who has supported us for the past ten years!  Given the success of last year’s “Steampunk” night, when many in our audience came in full Steampunk regalia, we encourage our supporters to dress up in your Oscar finery for prizes will be awarded to the most glamorous, striking and adventurous attire.  Whether your style is 40’s glam, or more avant-garde, we hope you’ll join in the fun by dressing in your Oscar best.   It all gets underway at 7:00 p.m. at Viento y Agua, so be sure to arrive early so you can show off your finery.

April 20 – Reggae (Amber/Draca coordinators)~ Dancer sign-ups begin March 20
